2012 Holiday Review Guide! – by Cara Potapshyn Meyers
The Holiday Season is in full swing! Here are some goodies for just about everyone on your gifting list! Enjoy!
I couldn’t help but begin with these little gems!
Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day Holiday Candle Tins
I love candles! Especially during the Holiday Season. Mrs. Meyer’s has released their new Holiday scents: Iowa Pine and Orange Clove! I truly love both scents! Once I lit the Iowa Pine candle, my living room smelled as if I had a freshly cut tree adorning my room! Ahh! The smell of holiday memories! Because my son made me an orange clove pomander last year (and thus, the scent has since disappeared), I placed the Orange Clove candle next to my bed to bring back sweet memories of my son and his precious gift! So lovely!
These affordable, adorable mini candles are available exclusively at Target stores nationwide. Also, in keeping with the brand’s mantra of providing eco-friendly products, the candle tins can be reused after the wax has fully burned to store ornament hooks, tags, gift labels and more!

Ambition’s Not An Awful Word
By Zack Zage
Illustrated by Adam Watkins
Get ready for a fantastical trip around the world of imagination with an ambitious boy named Zack! Award winning, Ambition’s Not An Awful Word is an inspiring tale that contains humorous rhymes that compare and contrast astoundingly vivid visions of achievement with the challenges and difficulties that children encounter in real life.
Ambition’s Not An Awful Word focuses on young Zack Zage, who is “busting his buttons” with excitement to speak. The subject for the day in Mrs. Grundy’s fourth grade class, “What I want to be.” Unfortunately, he’s stuck at the end of the alphabet. When he finally takes center stage, he goes all out. But you will have to read this enchanting book to find out!
I read Ambition’s Not An Awful Word to my 4th Grade son and he loved it! Since my son is a struggling reader and is not too keen on reading any book, the fact that he loved it enough to discuss it with me afterwards meant that this book was that inspiring! I actually brought it to my son’s teacher for Parent/Teacher conference and discussed how wonderful this book was. My son’s teacher asked to not only borrow it to read to my son’s class, she wanted to read it to her own children as well! That says quite a lot when it comes to a children’s book!
Themes touched on include: ambition, motivation, inspiration, career exploration, negativism, bullying, understanding, and compassion.
