Swim, Bike, Run! by Margaret Hart
My son competed in his very first Kids Triathlon today and I am so proud of him! He showed such courage and determination in trying something so challenging. The final numbers have not yet been posted, but he finished among the top 18 participants, from a total of 82 kids in his age category. He started out by swimming 75 meters, followed by biking 2 miles, and finished up the race by running half a mile. He raised his arms in triumph as he ran under the balloon arch at the finish line.
While he was a little disappointed that he didn’t win a trophy for his overall time, he was happy to learn that he had some of the top times, over many of his competitors, in the bike and run portions of the race. He competed against kids up to one year older than himself, and was up against a lot of kids who are on swim teams (which he is not). So, overall, it was a stellar achievement for a first timer, and he was very pleased with himself!
For my husband, it was a wonderful Father’ s Day gift to share this achievement with his son!
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads!
