Cool Kid Books for the Minecraft Lover: Roundup by Robin Gorman Newman

miecraftbiblemasterTHE UNOFFICIAL HOLY BIBLE FOR MINECRAFTERS: A Children’s Guide to the Old & New Testament by Garrett Romines and Christopher Miko

  • Print Length: 288 pages
  • Publisher: Sky Pony Press (February 10, 2015)
  • For ages 5-13

This striking (coffee table size) paperbook, great as both a collectible and a gift, takes a totally original approach to presenting stories from the  Bible.  If your child is a fan of Minecraft, the uber-popular, highly addictive video game, this is a cool way to pique their curiosity and educate them about tales ranging from The Story of Creation to Mose’s Great Journey to The Birth of Jesus and lots more.

Authors Chris Miko and Garrett Romines are elementary school teachers whose goal it was to inspire young children to learn about the Bible, by presenting it in an imaginative, bold, adventurous, colorful, memorable fashion.

The pages of the book bring to life, in stunning Minecraft style, Biblical figures including Jonah, Adam and Eve, Ruth, etc. There are 29 tales in all, almost half of which depict Jesus.  Each story is concise, which makes it an easy, appealing read….especially for kids with a tight attention span.

There are over 270 images, and for my 12 year old son, who is a year away from Bar Mitzvah and attends Hebrew School, this is an appealing way to inspire him to take in these classic tales.  We are enjoying reading them together, and he gets wide-eyed with delight at the detailed drawings.  Visit http://www.skyponypress.com/book/?GCOI=61608103455460&.

With these guides, I defer to the judgement of my Minecraft-manic 12 year old son who assures me they rock!  Each states on its cover Top Secret and Classified, which is enough to get any devoted Minecraft player jazzed.  As a parent, I strongly encourage my son to break from electronics whenever possible, and this is a welcome way to inspire them to read, yet not feel they’re fully missing out on precious Minecraft time.  For that reason alone, these books get my vote!

  1. One Response to “Cool Kid Books for the Minecraft Lover: Roundup by Robin Gorman Newman”

  2. In an effort to get my 8 year old to read more, together with him, we wrote an entire fiction series about Minecraft called, Diary of a Minecraft Zomibie. It was so much fun for him that he looks for other similar books and is reading all of the time.

I think a great way to get kids to read is to link it to something they love, like Minecraft. Here is the first in the series we wrote, and I wouldn’t mind if you reviewed these as well.
