Hair by Margaret Hart
If you’re a fan of 1960s rock musicals, you may recall this original song of the same name. The lyrics have been stuck in my head all week, so today I did an Internet search and had a good laugh.
I saw a few slightly different versions of the lyrics, but the chorus I recall from my childhood goes something like this:
“Give me a head with hair, long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming, streaming, flaxen, waxen
Give me down to there, hair, shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there, momma, everybody, daddy, daddy
Hair, flow it, show it
Long as God can grow, my hair.”
Lately, my son has been showing me his lovely flowing (and growing very long) blonde locks. When I suggested that his bangs are hanging in his eyes, and he may need a trim, he said, “No mom, look.” And he shaked his head from one side to the other in a sort of slow motion “Charlie’s Angels” way. I cracked up.
I don’t know exactly when it happened, but all of a sudden my eight-year-old is noticing how he looks. He’s now opting to wear a nice pair of jeans or cotton slacks to school, versus his daily uniform of athletic pants with holes in the knees. He’s been switching up his usual character t-shirts, choosing instead to wear pullover sweaters or one of the casual shirts I bought him last September that haven’t seen the light of day in months. And boy, oh boy, is he enjoying his long hair.
I’ve caught him checking his look in the mirror. He’s definitely grooming it, flowing it, and showing it. And I’m enjoying it!

Yes, the testosterone is flowing! My son won’t let anyone TOUCH his hair! And he does the same “Charlie’s Angel” shake to his hair! Too funny!!
