Happy Bloggiversary to Me by Pamela Francis

So it’s been 1 year since I began blogging for Motherhoodlater.com and I can tell you that my bio needs a complete overhaul as I am no longer several of the things I was a year ago. Let’s go down the line, shall we…?

Replace “Georgia resident” with “California returnee”.
Replace “wife and mother” with just mother, thank you.
Replace “work-from-home momtrepreneur” with DoorDash Driver. What?! I’ll explain later.
Modify “mother-of-two” to read “mother with 1 kid in tow and shared custody of the other”.

There’s more, of course, but I won’t bore you with the details. At least not all in the same article. I can stretch it out over several entries. LOL.

I’ve pruned my Facebook friends back, as I tend to do pretty regularly anyway, and I’ve erected new boundaries while fortifying old ones.  So long, mom.  So long, sis.  What can I say.

My barber tells me I’m losing hair, but I think he’s just trying to cover up the hatchet job he did on my cut yesterday and it’s easier to make a 49-yr old mom believe she’s going bald than to come out and say, I was in a hurry to get home and watch football and I ruined your cut. SMH.

Perhaps the biggest change I underwent was one that almost jeopardized my ability to write for Motherhoodlater. No, I’m not talking about being homeless. Although that one was probably a close 2nd. But if you go back in the archives or wherever, you may see that I started out submitting an article a week. Every Wednesday since October 2015 I posted a fresh new blog without fail. I was introducing myself and letting my new audience know who this particular Later Mom was. I told you about my home-based businesses, about the projects I was working on, about my sons. I shared my philosophies and practices. I posted pictures and pontificated in poetry. (How’s that for some alliteration, huh? :-)

But what I did not do… what I was too afraid to do… was admit that I was probably not the best person to blog for motherhoodlater.com anymore. Maybe somewhere around March 2016 or so I started to get the distinct impression that I was… let’s say… “having a little trouble showing up to this post”. I wasn’t hitting those Wednesdays anymore… I wasn’t spitting out 4 articles a month… Not that anyone ever told me I had to do all that. No, these were expectations I’d upheld of mySELF.

The change I underwent, the one that jeopardized my ability to write for a publication extolling the joy of being a later-in-life mom, was one which I will elaborate on in the coming weeks, as my Year 2 kicks off with fresh new posts from a — dare I say — more authentic voice…

My thanks and appreciation to Robin Gorman for creating this space, and to you, the readers for joining me in it.

stay tuned… ; )
