Robin’s Show Recommendation: FOREVER TANGO
HOT HOT HOT! Packed with elegance, sex appeal, whimsy and an old worldly charm, FOREVER TANGO is a well-staged sizzling production that has returned to Broadway after a successful run 16 years ago….and it was worth bringing back! I felt enveloped by an energy and sensuality, and that combined with class, made it a unique theatrical experience of dance and music and storytelling (Many tangos portray drama and romantic tension). Superb dancers (cast of 16), with uber-fast footwork and acrobatic technique that leaves you breathless at times.
And, who knew bandoneons (like an accordian) could really rock an orchestra? The music was enchanting, and Latin Grammy-winner Luis Enrique (who I was not familiar with…and appears thru 8/18) brought the house down with Yo No Se Manana…and while I speak no Spanish, I found myself attempting to sing the tune upon departure…or at least hum it.
Until August 11th, the show features “Dancing With the Stars” dynamic dancing dio Karina Smirnoff and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who are electric on stage!
Beautiful, slinky, fitted costumes, fedoras and stilettos (how the women dance in them is a sight to behold)….dramatic lighting….all create a mood of heightened passion, athleticism and energy.
Juan Paulo Horvath and Victoria Galoto begin the show by emerging from behind an oversized bandoneon….and we are immediately drawn in.
