But as a parent, you may realize that helping them sleep can be a not so easy task. With the toys, television shows, funny websites, and mobile devices that are catching their attention, these youngsters will try to stay awake for as long as they can. And if you do not properly guide them, there is a big chance that they won’t get the required amount of sleep that they need. So to help you out, here are several simply but effective tips for helping your kid have a good night’s sleep.

1. Use a good mattress
Sometimes, you can easily solve this dilemma by choosing the right foam mattress for their bed. There are different types of mattresses to choose from, and each has its own unique quality. Some products are made from memory foam to make it extra plush and comfortable. Once you lie on it, the mattress will form contours around your body shape.

There are also latex support mattresses that combine spring and memory foam. If you are searching for a product that is less expensive, then you can opt for a product that is made from open coil spring. However, be weary when using this product because it does not last too long.

2. Avoid caffeinated drinks before bedtime
Even a single cup of coffee can reduce their sleeping time by 30 minutes. It may not look much, but it can greatly affect your child’s health in the long run. And it is not just espresso or caramel macchiato that you should worry about. Caffeine can also be found on several drinks and foods such as tea, ice cream, chocolate, and even medications. Always read the label before feeding it to your kid.

3. Eat breakfast before sleeping
Meals that are rich in both protein and carbohydrates can actually aid in better sleep at night. Examples of these include oatmeal, milk, peanut butter, and toast. These foods contain amino acids that can make you feel sleepy. In addition, you can also try yogurt, eggs, and cheese.

4. Disconnect and Unplug
Do not let your kid sleep with his phone, computer, or tablet. If they do not have their gadgets with them in bed, they will not be too tempted to browse the internet or play more games during bedtime.
